I was talking to Adam on the phone this morning - he called to say that his mission to get me a Russian hat from the vodka bar in Sydney had failed. How disappointing.
He went on to say that he had noticed some odd things in Sydney that were different to Perth. Things like underground train lines, double decker train carriages and monorails (*insert monorail song from The Simpsons here*).
It got me thinking about little things that are unique about other places. The most awful idosyncracy that a place could have had the misfortune of having would definitely be Rotorua's gag-inducing stench.
In France, they have Stop signs that say stop, rather than the French equivalent arrete. While we're still talking about France, I have to mention that I wasn't exactly dodging dog faeces over every metre of Parisian pavement.
But if someone asked me if Perth had any odd little quirks, I would feel compelled to say no. Apart from the fact that our public transport systems goes nowhere fast and that it would be cheaper to live on boat than in the dodgiest suburb in Perth, there is really nothing distinctive.
What do all the Perth people think about this? If you're not from Perth, does your city/town/patch of dirt have anything that sets it apart? Landmarks don't count - only weird and wonderful practices or systems.

I reckon Perth is great. After being in Queensland for 11 days, I love the fact that we're not tourism central!! There were tourists EVERYWHERE. And I went on those doubledecker trains in Sydney - they're GREAT!! :)
Yesterday, I had to walk home from Garden City because the buses only run once every hour to Winthrop area...and I'd missed it by 10 minutes. Hence, I got home earlier than the bus did, even though it took 45 mins to walk. Isn't that scary?
