Three hours ago I was watching The Sound of Music when the following super rolled across the bottom of the screen:
News Flash: Bomb Blasts in Bali - 3 people injured.
Now because Perth is in the same time zone as Bali, we found everything out as it happened. So within that three hour time period from finding out to writing this post it has gone from three injured to 19 dead and 51 injured. One of the casualties being Australian.
Am I surprised? No. Terrorism towards 'Westerners' in Indonesia is quite a common occurance.
Am I shocked? Somewhat. Bombs are stupid. Terrorism is stupid.
Am I bored? Yes. The ideology is always the same, the delivery is always the same, people die, the world gets outraged, it happens again within twelve months. Pass the salt please.
I'm not belittling the 19 lives that have been lost three hours ago. I'm belittling the people who caused this. Note to Terrorists: Killing people will not make the world warm up to your cause. If killing people is the only way you get attention for aforementioned cause then it's probably not a very worthwhile one in the first place.
I'm starting to believe Mum when she says that if my brother or I decided to visit Indonesia, she'd 'burn our bloody passports'.
