the application process (and how it bugs me so)

So today was the day for professional placement applications to be handed in for uni.

Professional placement is the 'invite only' unit where the uni sells poor, high-achieving students off for slave labour at the media organisation of their choice. Ok, so I exaggerate slightly.

Being the good girl that I am, I handed my application in on Tuesday. I wanted to be placed in the production of the ABC morning programme. I thought I'd stick with what I knew.

But then yesterday, while I was doing a story for my Print News Unit, I had to chance down one of my lecturers for a photo to go with my news story.

She said something that astounded me: "Hey Jess, are you applying for professional placement? Cos I thought you'd do really well in the newsroom at the ABC."

Truth be told, I didn't give the newsroom a second thought. I thought this lecturer didn't like me. So I spent the next 24 hours deliberating over whether or not I should change my application.

In the end I changed my application and emailed it to the lecturer.

She duly thanked me for my application, explained that ABC news professional placements require applicants to fill out as special application form and with that attached the gargantuan 7-page application form which practically asks you what you had for breakfast that morning (as if a crumpet and a vanilla latte really makes a difference).

On the bright side, my lecturer said she'd help me with the form when I next see her.

Fantastique! (They also wanted to know if I had a 'working knowledge' of any other languages)

You just gave me the biggest freakout!!!
I'd organised my placement with Gail, and she's organised it with the ABC dude, but she hadn't mentioned any forms that were due.
So I panicked a little, checked my uni email for things about placement, and discovered that i don't have to apply till next semester. *sigh of relief*
Nothin' like a little adrenaline to start the day.
