jessyp's retail adventures

Considering it was my first week at work, I thought it was high time I posted about working for the big evil corporation. So here are some random points that are somewhat work related.

1. You will always feel like a dumbass on your first day of work.
Especially if it's a one day sale and they put you in womenswear from 8-6am. The 'void' button and I were very well acquainted.

2. Although I may work for a big, evil corporation, like in most cases (eg. big nasty commercial radio station), the people you work with are actually quite nice.
Everytime I hopped in the lift people would talk to me and ask me if I was having a good time on my first day. I wasn't but I told them I was.

3. The people you work with may be nice, but they'll still bugger off half an hour before you're rostered off to leave you to close a till by yourself.
All the permanents were rostered on until 5.30 on Monday but because there was a sale we were open until 6. Who do you think had to shut down all the tills? The newbies who only got taught how to do it three days ago of course!

4. Eventually they'll put you in the department you want to work in.
Tomorrow I get to work in the boys' club that is Audio Visual. Glee! Finally I'll actually be able to talk about something I have a clue about. Plus I get commission for selling big items like big TVs and stuff. Finally fun work. None of those silly clothing departments for me.

5. The pay is ok.
I have no idea exactly what they paid me for this fortnight. Probably just Monday's shift but I think I got paid ok. It's unusual to see money in my account. Very happy!
